The People United Foundation’s physical education program, or PUFPEP, is a comprehensive physical education program that promotes healthy nutritional and physical lifestyles for youth and adults residing in communities. This program provides access to health-related fitness assessments and a support system to encourage and empower students to employ an active healthy lifestyle.
People United Foundation is a member of two nationally renown physical education organizations: Let’s Move! Active Schools and Alliance for a Healthier Generation. PUFPEP, Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and Let’s Move! Active Schools follow the same framework as the Alliance’s Healthy Schools Program, with a focus on physical education and activity.
PUFPEP employs the Alliance’s 8-session evidence-based course, empowerME4Life, equips youth with the skills and knowledge to eat better and move more. Each 45-minute session builds on the last to reinforce lifelong skills for nutrition and fitness. Teen and adult facilitators can use empowerME4Life in after-school and community environments to teach the 5 steps to healthier living.
5 Steps to Healthier Living:
- Get physically active for 60 minutes each day
- Drink primarily water, 1 percent or fat free milk, and 100 percent juice with no added sugars
- Eat fruits and vegetables with EVERY meal
- Limit screen time to 1-2 hours a day
- Get at least 9 hours of sleep every night
